About Us

Committed to Community Growth & Preservation

Strengthening Barrio Azteca through housing, education, and economic empowerment since 1982.

Who We Are

Azteca Economic Development was established in February 1982 and is committed to preserving Barrio Azteca, one of Laredo’s oldest and most historically recognized residential neighborhoods. Our goal is to preserve cultural roots and economic integrity by developing affordable housing and opportunities for low-income individuals.

Azteca Economic Development played a key role in the development of the Texas Border Low-Income Housing Coalition in the 1990s, creating multiple housing programs to address the housing needs of low-income individuals living in Colonias and communities along the Texas-Mexico border.

Since 1997, more than 1,500 low-income families have received housing assistance through Azteca Economic Development and Preservation Corporation, ensuring they never pay more than 30% of their income on rent.

Our Mission
